talking about what's important.
Have you ever been in a conversation concerning current events with nothing to contribute or even worse, absolutely no idea what's going on? We've all been there, awkwardly listening, nodding our heads, creating a facade of reciprocated understanding. No one can blame you- we live in an age where we are constantly receiving new information. Realistically, it's impossible to be aware and educated on every political & societal issue.
We all want to hold ourselves in intellectual and thought-provoking conversations about the world we live in, so how can we face this obstacle? On our road to becoming better human beings, the endeavor is made easy as I cover relevant political and social developments every week.
More than just simply reporting, I will discuss how given events or developments are representative of, or rooted in discrimination.
Listen to Something Insightful so next time, you can participate in conversations at Thanksgiving dinner.

the methodology
I believe that presenting complex information in a casual manner (like a podcast) makes the content easier to digest & more enjoyable to listen to. Conversations surrounding gender, sexuality, race, & politics are societally deemed as intimidating, so to de-stigmatize these topics is to teach individuals how to engage in healthy communication and therefore, become better human beings.
Simplifying and explaining social issues in a manner that is easier to understand ensures that everyone can participate in complex conversations. Knowledge should not be reserved for those who hold degrees in the subject but should be made available, intelligible, & comprehensive.

a little about me
My name is Ella Fingado and I am a senior at Severn School in Severna Park, Maryland.
I have spent my fundamental educational years in pursuit of political and social knowledge that goes beyond a high-school curriculum. In this journey I have engaged in local politics focusing on reproductive rights and climate change, planning & speaking at rallies & meeting with local politicians to enact change.
In school, I work to understand how to better hold important & meaningful conversations through my involvement in clubs, being a member of Peer Counselors & co-leading our One Love chapter. My most rewarding classes are always in the realm of language; I have always been a communication-oriented person, learning best through discussion & debate.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, caring for my plants (I have a bit of a green thumb), & helping to rehabilitate my families' foster animals.
I am immensely grateful for Severn School and the Van Eney 09' Fellows Program for giving me this opportunity, thank you.
